Elementary / Students / Activities
There are many opportunities for students to participate in extra-curricular activities around Sisters Elementary School. Some may meet during the school day, while others meet before or after school. Hopefully you can find a club or activity that will tickle your fancy.
Battle of the Books
The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.
OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.
In Battle of the Books, all three buildings have teams that are reading 12-16 books and will battle each other with questions about each of the stories. The final school Battles will determine which team will represent Sisters in the 3-5 Division, the 6-8 Division, and the 9-12 Division.
These school Battles will take place in February, so the winning teams will have time for final preparations for the Regional Battle of the Books on Saturday, March 10th at Sisters Middle School. Teams of all divisions will come from about 55 schools to battle it out and see who goes to represent Region 7 (Central Oregon) at the State level Battle of the Books in April.
